this might have been mentioned but wasn't Jack's wife, Sarah, in an
accident with an SUV. Is it possible that Sarah and Shannon's father
were involved in the same accident? I vaguely remember jack having to
choose which patient to help.

Absolutly. In the scene where Sarah was first brought into the ER, the
other patient was Rutherford. Last night in the scene where the doctor
is telling Shannon's step-mom that that her husband died, Jack walked
past them in the hall. The doc said his car had been struch by an SUV.

is rutherford shannon's father?
Yes. Shannon Rutherford. Boone Caryle is her step-borther. Boone's Mom
married Shannon's Dad when he was 10 and she was 8.

Here's another interesting point: Shannon was 18 (almost or just
turned...) when her Father died. She told Hurley he was 20 when he was
doing his census. Desmond told Jack he'd been on the island for three
years. Maybe it was almost 3 years. Maybe Shannon was about to turn 21.
But even so, that must mean Desmond started on his race around the
world just after his conversaion with Jack in the stadium. So that
dates Jack's last flashback and puts an upper limit (3 years) on his
marriage.

Not even that. They married "a little over 2 years" after the car
accident. That marriage was VERY VERY short. A few months at most.

I noticed that as well, was about to post the same thing. Shannon's
comment at the wake that she was 18 means that Jack met his wife
between two and three years ago. During that time Boone paid off three
of Shannon's lovers, she lived with a man in France for a year, and
somewhere along the line she was married briefly. Busy girl!

Either that, or the writers forgot that Shannon said she was 20. At
the time it seemed an odd thing to mention since Hurley hadn't even
asked her age.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's never been established WHY Jack is no
longer married. Everyone seems to assume they got a divorce, but isn't
it just possible that Sarah died?

We don't yet know, but we're sure to find out later this season.

Who is "everyone?" I've personally always figured it more likely that she
died, especially after the events of the first few episodes of this season.

No. The doctor tells Shannon and her step-mother that Mr. Rutherford
'was in a head-on collision with an SUV'. There is indication as to
what type of vehicle Mr. Rutherford was driving.

Wait a second now. I thought Sarah was hit head on by an SUV. That's
what she said. Were they both driving SUVs? Or the writers screwed up!

You are incorrect.
From "Man of Science, Man of Faith":

JACK [to EMT]: Tell me. EMT: Her tire blew, car jumped
the divider, went head-on with an
SUV.
. . . .
JACK: Where's the driver of the SUV? EMT #2: Adam
Rutherford, 57, chest trauma, no breath sounds.

So it was Mr. Rutherford who was driving an SUV. We don't know what
type of car Sarah was driving.

The writers <Stewie Voice> screeeeeeeeeewed up. In this episode, they
indeed had the doctor tell the Rutherfords that Adam was hit by an SUV.

Or they were both driving SUVs.

Then based on this episode and this season's episode 1, both Mr. Adam
Rutherford and Sarah were driving SUV's.

Then based on this episode and this season's episode 1, both Mr. Adam
Rutherford and Sarah were driving SUV's.

doesn't lack possibility, SUV are (and have been for a while now)
quite popular.

Season 2, Episode 1, ~6.5 minutes in

"Adam Rutherford, 57, chest trauma, no breath sounds," says the paramedic
bringing him into the ER while Jack was working on Sarah.

this might have been mentioned but wasn't Jack's wife, Sarah, in an
accident with an SUV. Is it possible that Sarah and Shannon's father
were involved in the same accident? I vaguely remember jack having to
choose which patient to help.

that's why its funny.
Not because of you personally, but there are so many people who get
annoyed and offended by questions that are used to death... come to my
side of this and you will see why it is so funny.
