I don't know if this has been mention, but I was asking my friend,
who is Korean about the dialog in the bathroom scene with Jin.
Apparently she said that the 2 were talking in Japaneese not Korean. I
found that strange. I guess it shows that Jin can pick up other
languages.

Also talking to my friend, she says that the actor that plays Jin is
not that strong speaking Korean which is funny, cause in the show he
knows little English.

I asked my girlfriend, who is Japanese and speaks Japanese (we watched
the episode together last night), and she said that they were not
speaking Japanese. However, she does not speak Korean so...take from
that what you will.

The guy who plays Jin is Asian American and has acted in English
speaking movies - like The Jackal. That's why his diction is probably
so poor.

Yeah, I read an article about Daniel Dae Kim. He's Korean American, so
he actually had to brush up on his Korean since it was pretty bad.

That might also explain why your Korean friend didn't think they were
speaking Korean. Between a Korean American and a Euro American, their
Korean was probably pretty bad.

This is from the imdb site on Daniel Dae Kim:

"Due to his childhood in America, Daniel knew very little Korean before he
did "Lost". He has said that his co-star on that show Yoon-jin Kim, who is
fluent in both English and Korean, has been invaluable in coaching him on
his Korean, which has apparently improved. Ironically, to the audience's
knowledge, Daniel's character knows nothing but Korean."

Jack, thanks for that info. It is helpful for those who are new to this
NG.

Daniel Dae Kim's Korean heritage has been discussed in the NG before.
He was born in Pusan, South Korean. As a young child, Daniel's parents
move to the U.S. Daniel has said in previous interviews that the korean
spoken in that southern part of Korea is slighly different from korean
spoken in the northern part. Also he had forgotten much of the korean
he learned as a child.
