Tie-in to Simpsons episode

Anyone see that Simpson's episode where Homer is on an island because
he stumbles on to a secret, and the whole island is full of other
prisoners that aren't allowed to escape?

Maybe the pirates are there to make sure that nobody ever leaves the
island? It's like the island protecting itself from outsiders, so that
nobody can ever get away only to bring the rest of the world back...

"The Computer Wore Menace Shoes" (CABF02) Airdate: 12/03/00
In a desperate attempt to rekindle interest, Homer starts really making
up the news. But when he accidentally stumbles upon a dangerous secret,
he finds himself kept prisoner on a strange island occupied by other
prisoners. Homer's best attempts to get back home only land the entire
family on the island.

Well, if LOST is trying to tie in to THE PRISONER, as that SIMPSONS episode
was, don't you think Number Two would have made himself known by now?

You might want to check out the Patrick McGoohan TV series THE PRISONER,
which is what the Simpsons was riffing off of in that episode. The
Village had robotic watchdogs that were like big white weather balloons (in
the Simpson version, Homer pops it with a fork).

There's another SIMPSONS episode that also has a THE PRISONER joke, where
Marge is in some sort of special training camp and when she tries to escape
is chased by one of those big white weather balloon Rovers, the robot
guards. In this one, she escapes, but the Rover envelopes Moleman.

The Rovers of THE PRISONER seem to have somewhat the same function as the
invisible dinosaurs/Jules Verne-esque steampunk contraptions of LOST.

That wasn't a tie-in to the 'simpsons'; that was a tie-in to 'the
prisoner'.

Oddly enough, i'm sure there's at least some inspiration from 'the
prisoner' in Lost even
though we haven't seen any direct references I am aware of. The part in
the finale when
they spot the boat reminded me of 'Many Happy Returns' or in other
words, if you manage
to escape from the island you've been trapped on, be careful about the
first boat you see
after you make it out to sea. Something very similar happened to number
six in that episode.
(ran into gun runners after building a raft and making it out to sea)

But if you haven't actually seen 'the prisoner' I would highly
recommend it. It was the 'Lost'
of it's time.
