Can Jin speak English?

Just watched the first two episodes of season 3 - thanks to Don Colvin's
help! - and Jin still can't speak English... though, according to his wife,
"He knows more English than you think."

Doesn't anyone remember the trailer for Season 2 where Jin says - in perfect
English - "Everything's about to change"?

What's that all about then? Was it just a lie for publicity/teaser reasons?

It was part of a dream sequence in which Hurley imagines
Jin speaking English.

But I'd love it if all this time Jin was hiding a knowledge of
English and didn't spring it until the final ep :-)

But Jin told him that they actually were speaking Korean...

Didn't Jin say to Sun just recently that he's starting to understand a lot
more English now?

That was a dream. Hurley's I believe. It was pretty sneaky of them to
use it in a preview though.

Damn bloody sneaky - if not an outright cheat! What episode was that in
then? I watched the whole of Season 2 and must've missed that one...

Just keep in mind, if it was a "cheat" it was the network's doing. The Lost
creative team generally has no involvement with putting the previews
together.

I never imagined they did. Your awfully oversensitive to jump to the
defence of the "creative team" like that, aren't you?

Hardly, as any number of my previous posts have shown.

Re-read what you replied to and ask yourself if you didn't turn a
clarification into an accusation.

Yeah, you're right about that. Sorry!

The disconnect between a show's production team and the network
publicity folks is a general problem in the industry, apparently.

On more than one occasion, CBS broadcast a promo of a future episode of
"Survivor" which stupidly included a scene of a player wearing the
Immunity Necklace. So we viewers already knew in advance who is going
to win Immunity in the upcoming episode.

That part of the series where Jin spoke perfect English, threw everyone
for a loop, as it was initially part of a preview.
Personally, I don't think he can speak English, but I'm quite sure,
after what he's been through so far, he knows a lot more than what he's
letting on. ...Jon

Jin did speak English in Hurley's dream--Season 2--but he said to Hurley
they were both speaking Korean and Hurley was now able to understand Korean.

It was someones dream. I know people that understand english but dont
speak it. Kinda funny but its more of an issue of making the effort or
not needing to. He knows english but speaks mandarin only. Its more
on other people to assume someone doesnt know something because of how
they look. Its a bad assumption. Esp. with people that think they
know something that no one would possibly know like a language other
than spanish, or french.
