dOgon vs dAgon

tdciago are these two similar or the same do you know?
I have looked at your mythology page. Other web search shows dOgon was a
fish god.
dAgon is an Old Tesament reference in 1 Samuael 5, about dAgon a fish god,
and an "intestinal" disorder.

"In Appendix II the reader will find in English translation the
surviving fragments of the lost 'Babylonian History' by Berossus....In
his work, Berossus describes his country's tradition of the origins of
its civilization. And the tale is a strange one. For a group of alien
amphibious beings were credited by the Babylonians with having founded
their civilization. The main individual of the group of amphibians is
called Oannes....In somewhat later traditions than the ones Berossus
drew on, Oannes became the fish-god of the Philistines known as Dagon
and familiar to many readers of the Bible. By that time Oannes, as
Dagon, had become an agricultural deity."
"And so, as we have seen, there was a huge cast of fish-tailed marine
characters in Greek mythology derived from Oannes and Dagon, related to
the Sirius tradition, often specifically said to have come from Egypt,
and related to Isis, Anubis, and even the Sphinx."

Fantastic! Thanks for the quick reply. Here is what I am working on.
Reference 1 Samuael, chapter 5. Philistines stole ark of the covenant, and
placed it in the house of Dagon (the 1/2 man, 1/2 fish god) Fish fell
down, and broke his crown (literally, twice) 2nd fall severed idols head
and hands. Philistines ultimately got rid of the ark of the covenant, they
believed they had been cursed by the ark theft, because the whole army got
hemmoroids (I swear, I am NOT makin' this stuff up)

Butt, there may be a tie in here...the heavy water, in low quantities,
causes no problem to human metabolism. But HIGH percentages in the body
mimics, chemotherapy contrandications...vomiting, nausea, and diareahha.
The losties have been on the island 2 months now give or take. The effects
of high D20 may kick in soon......MOST of this is guess work.....Im just
trying to stay ahead of the producers...but is getting harder to do......

BTW Dagon was a god of fertility, in some sense.....did you see the
spoiler thread yet?...about reproduction on the island?

Yes, I did. As I've said before, ol' Zeus was in the baby-making
business, too. :)

You can see how the myths of various civilizations all have common
themes. There are those who believe that the Egyptian goddess Isis
evolved into the Virgin Mary. So the show's layering of different
belief systems (Christian, Greek, Babylonian, Chinese, etc.) is no
surprise.

By the way, for those who don't have the patience to read "The Sirius
Mystery," but want to know more about the Dogon people, try this link:

http://www.crystalinks.com/dogon.html

Read *everything*. Note the theme of twin-ness, the grid patterns, the
fish, the "Sun of Women," the Pleiades, and so on, and the relationship
with Egypt.

One of the things I found interesting when Boone was in the Beechcraft
was how the camera zoomed from Nigeria on the map up to the Sahara. It
seemed to skim right over where Mali would be on the map without making
it visible. Does anyone know of a good screencap of the picture on the
wall in the hatch, that seems to show some kind of desrt, rocky
scenery? I'd like to find out where that is.

Just a quick little post (lunch) to mention how interesting all the
links from this site are. One in particular - Yemoja, the patron
diety of pregnant women and the Ogun river. The waters of the Ogun
river are said to cure infertility. The island waters are what cured
Jin! It gives a whole new meaning to "I don't know how it happened -
there must be something in the water." :)
